“Forbidden Broadway” Turns 25!
Forbidden Broadway, that musical theater entity that lovingly mocks all shows currently treading the Broadway boards in any given season, is celebrating its 25th anniversary and you know you are not going to want to miss out on all the fun! Begun in 1982 by Gerard Alessandrini, the first edition of Forbidden Broadway accosted the Broadway shows and stars of the day and has continued to go on and win many awards as time has gone on and season have changed. Boasting Tony Honors Obie Awards, Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards as well a Drama League Awards and Lucille Lortel Awards, the Forbidden Broadway machine is a strong force, and this season’s version promises to be just as good as all those before it!
The 25th anniversary showcase is called “Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening” and it features spoofs on such shows as “Spring Awakening,” “Curtains,” “A Chorus Line,” “Grease: You’re The One That I Want” and “Legally Blonde” as well as “Mary Poppins,” “Grey Gardens” and a slew of others from the company’s extensive past. Like all the Forbidden Broadway seasons before it, this season’s version promises to be an amazing time so try to check it out for yourself!
