“Phantom” is Returning!
“Phantom” is returning to Broadway. No, this is not that Andrew Lloyd Webber-created phenomenon “The Phantom of the Opera” referred to by some theatergoers simply as “Phantom” that has endured to be one of the most beloved and longest-running productions in Broadway history. Rather, this is a production by Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston will be returning to the same stage wherein it made its New York Premiere in 1992 - the Westchester Broadway Theater. “Phantom” will play at the Westchester Theater through February 9, 2008.
With Arthur Kopit doing the writing and Maury Yeston in charge of music and lyrics, these two collaborators also worked together on the Broadway Musical “Nine” which won them a Tony Award. Both this storyline and the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber production are based on the same novel by Gaston LeRoux, but this “Phantom” is more of a traditional Broadway musical with dialogue and songs throughout while Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production. And in this “Phantom” Christine and the Phantom’s love affair is mutual. Aaron Ramey stars in this production as the Phantom with Kate Rockwell taking on the role of Christine Daae and Sandy Rosenberg playing the role of the opera diva, Carlotta.
