Wooster Group’s Production of “Hamlet” Extended!
Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet” is undoubtedly one of his best-known works and therefore is one of the plays written by The Bard which is produced by regional and national theaters very frequently. Without a doubt the storyline is riveting, the characters are complex, and the central dilemma is one which human beings have always dealt with and undoubtedly will always deal with, because it is just so quintessentially a part of the human condition. This is surely at least part of the reason why The Public Theater chose to make “Hamlet” a part of their current season and it is probably also why they chose to take such a creative and adaptive spin on the storyline.
After all, it takes a certain panache to really make Shakespeare pop today, when MTV and gossip blogs have essentially stripped the youth of any ability to process any form of entertainment staying on one topic or in one scene for longer than thirty minutes. When The Public Theater took on the Wooster Grou’s presentation of “Hamlet,” they must have known they’d struck gold. This group has created a thoroughly enjoyable adaptation of Hamlet that will have even the most un-exposed theater-goer glued to their seat, so see what you can do about catching this performance!
