The Smells of a Theater
Theaters have an interesting smell, all conosseiurs of the art can tell you that. Of course, most buildings have a smell like that - ball parks smell of hot dogs, fairs smell of fried foods, movie theaters smell of popcorn.
However theaters are very much unlike these other locales as they do not smell of food. Yes some theaters sell concessions for the intermission, but theaters have a different scent, a musty smell. Theaters are notoriously cold, though horribly warm for those onstage under all those lights.
But that smell, it is that smell that sticks in people’s minds, a sort of musty, closed-up smell and that is one of the many things that make theater such a strong thing to be remembered, at least for me - it attaches itself to all your senses.
